The Cyber Security Office is charged with enhancing the overall information security posture of the Executive Branch of West Virginia State Government. Our goal is to reduce the overall risk to the data and the information systems that contain and process this data.
The Risk and FOIA team at WVOT helps safeguard state information and ensures transparency through the management of public records requests. This group supports risk assessments, reviews for compliance with state IT policies, and assists agencies with identifying and addressing potential security concerns. They also coordinate responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests related to technology services, ensuring timely and accurate access to public records in accordance with state law.
The Security Operations Center (SOC) protects the state’s technology systems by monitoring for cyber threats and responding to security incidents. It provides core services such as threat detection, firewall management, web filtering, and endpoint protection. The SOC also reviews system changes, supports secure network configurations, and works closely with trusted partners to strengthen the state’s cybersecurity posture.
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) team within the Cybersecurity division focuses on the secure and responsible use of AI technologies across state government. This group evaluates AI tools, monitors emerging risks, and develops best practices to help agencies use AI effectively while protecting sensitive data. The team also supports policy development and collaborates with partners to ensure AI adoption aligns with state cybersecurity standards.
If you believe you've encountered a potential security threat or incident, please report it immediately so our team can investigate and respond appropriately. Timely reporting helps us protect our systems and data.
