Client Services
The Client Services division of the West Virginia Office of Technology is focused on technical support and assistance to our supported agencies and partners. Functional units include the Service Desk, Tier 2 Support, and Field Support.
Data Center
This team is comprised of 2 units; Backup and Recovery, and Servers and Storage.
Data Protection & Recovery: This team provides Data Protection (Backup) and recovery services for hundreds of servers and storage systems. Data is protected via the EMC IDPA - Integrated Data Protection Appliance.
Servers & Storage: This team provides support for one thousand two hundred (1200) servers within state government and Enterprise Storage Appliances. Servers are either physical (locally and distributed) or virtual (VMware). As of now we are approximately 55% virtualized, with a goal of achieving 90% virtualization by 2025. The team builds and modifies server configurations and maintains their storage on enterprise storage appliances. The operating systems supported are Windows Server and Red Hat Linux.
Both the Data Protection and Server & Storage teams maintain Office of Technology Data Centers, including physical plant operations, security considerations, etc. There are currently two Office of Technology-controlled Data Centers and one Co-Located Data Center.
